I will be designing for Women’s Spring/Summer 2014. I would like the collection to have a young, elegant and edgy look. This means I will use fairly lightweight fabrics with tatty, rough edges and textiles with the look of beautiful decay. Layering of transparent fabrics will help give the water-like mood. Rather than focusing too much on the fantasy side of Atlantis, I have more interest in the mythology and philosophical theories behind it. My research will help inspire and develop my designs.
I hope to design and make at least 2-3 outfits, possibly 2 outfits, consisting of two garments each. This could include accessories. My colour scheme for the project is based on mythological and Ancient Greek imagery, decay, marine life and architecture. This means my colours consist of deep greys and pale silvers, coral-like colours, sandy hues and dusty blues and aquas. Forms and silhouettes will be fluid yet edgy, with emphasis on pleats.
This project will help me extend my skills in fashion and textiles, especially: pattern cutting, textile techniques and computer skills. I hope the dark and decayed yet elegant mood of the project will be expressed in the finished garments.
